Halloween party-prep for teens

With Halloween just around the corner & Halloween party planning underway, now’s the time to learn more about edible decorations to fit the occasion and the public Library is here to help.

Gather your friends together and get signed up for the teen workshop about how to make delicious decorations this Thursday at 5:30 p.m., just in time for the big event on Friday.

Advance registration is required for this particular workshop, so remember to give the library a call to let them know you want to attend.

Cooking Contest for Kids & Teens

The annual “Kids & Teens Cooking Contest” is here again at the Nacogdoches Public Library. Registration forms are available at the Library, so don’t forget to sign up soon.

Contest Date: November 15 (Saturday)

Time: 2:30 – 4:30

Deadline: November 13 (Thursday) is the deadline to submit your Registration form.

Age Groups: 4-8, 9-13, and 14-18

Age groups subject to change, depending on registrations, but these are the approximate age groups expected.




RULES
(Short form only. See Library for complete Rules.)

1. Food item must be prepared with minimal adult assistance. Adults may help with sharp or hot items.
2. All dishes must be prepared and and handled according to food safety procedures to prevent foodborne illness.
3. Label plates, serving utensils, etc. Pick up all food items by 5:30 p.m. Leftovers will be thrown away.
4. You can enter two items, but they must be in different categories.
5. Winners will be announced on Contest Day. Contestants and winners will be photographed.
6. Submit a separate application for each entry.
7. Contestants must arrive with their food item by 2:30 on Contest Day. Judging will begin at 3:30 p.m. Winners will be announced at 4:30 p.m. Need not be present to win.

Golden games for your golden years

“Games for Seniors” is a monthly event hosted by the Nacogdoches Public Library for senior citizens who want to get together for casual social fun in a relaxed environment with some friendly competition. The Library provides the perfect setting for card games such as spades, or dominoes, or other games you might enjoy.

Dates: 3rd Tuesday of each month

Time: 2:00 p.m.

What to Bring? Bring a friend! Or, you’re sure to meet some new ones, as well.

LEGO Club – alive & well



The LEGO Club at the Nacogdoches public library is still alive & well & going strong! This special program began several years ago and has become a fan favorite, held once a month, usually near the 3rd or last weekend of the month (dates vary, check schedule).

Next LEGO Club – October 18, 2014

Time: 2:30 – 4:00 p.m.

Ages: 5-17 years

LEGO building system is even more popular than ever before and is no longer the domain only of future engineers. Girls & boys of all ages and interests can enjoy fun social time with friends while developing skills in many academic areas and experiencing the thrill of making their own creations.

The LEGO group has been around since 1932 and the current style of bricks were introduced in 1958. LEGO is clearly here to stay, and thank goodness for that!

Halloween Concert

Melissa Nabb and her violin students will present a Halloween Violin Concert at the Nacogdoches Public Library on October 24th at 6:00 p.m.

Playing the violin has many physical, mental and social benefits.

With regular practice, you’ll develop stronger arms, better dexterity in your fingers and hands, and better posture. Learning to play the violin also improves reading skills, improves concentration and memory, lowers stress, boosts confidence and encourages social skills such as collaboration and communication and a sense of community.
