Fall Fling at Farmers Market

September 20, 2014 (Saturday) will be the annual Fall Fling hosted by the Nacogdoches Farmers Market.

This fabulous event is free (with shopping opportunities available) and includes great entertainment for all ages.

Musical acts include the young violinists, the Rhythm Rockers cloggers, Cindy Grayson, Emily Williams, El Camino Real and Miki Lynn.

There will also be free music lessons, a petting zoo, and so much more.

The children’s activity area will be open from 9 am to 1 pm.

The Nacogdoches Farmers Market is one of the best and most exciting markets in the state. You can get almost everything you need or want at the market, including fresh groceries, fruits, vegetables, eggs, candles, baked goods, bread, cheese, flowers, herbs, spices, honey, baby items, furniture, jewelry, dishes, home furnishings, meat, cornmeal, soap and so much more.

Alzheimer’s Walk

October 11, 2014 (Saturday) will be the Nacogdoches “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” event at the Native Plant Center.

This event is “dog and stroller friendly” and is expected to be a lot of fun, so register your team today!

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, the Alzheimer’s Association estimates that 5.2 million people have Alzheimer’s disease in the United States. In Texas, 340,000 people have Alzheimer’s disease.

Water Workshop (Feb. 18)

Whether for fishing, canoeing, feeding animals, or drinking it ourselves, the issue of water quality affects us all and everyone can get more informed at the workshop coming soon. The workshop will include info about water quality, water pollution, watershed management, and efforts to help improve and protect water of theAngelina River and surrounding areas. Participants will receive a free copy of the Texas Watershed Steward Handbook and a certificate of completion and CPUs are available for crop advisers, engineers, planners, teachers, landscape architects and floodplain managers.

This workshop is presented by a cooperative effort of the AgriLife Extension, the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board and the Texas Small Farmers and Ranchers Community Based Organization and others.

Fun Run to honor teachers (Feb. 22)

You can run or walk in honor of a special educator in your life at the 3rd annual Chalk Walk/Fun Run hosted by the SFA Chapter of the Professional Association in Education (PDK). This great event will help support local educators and also raises money for scholarships. There is also an option to participate in an officially timed run during this event.

Registration deadline is February 1st, so don’t delay!
