Republic of Texas – special speakers

This year, the Nine Flags Festival will focus on the Lone Star flag as a special feature.

On November 26 at the Visitor’s Center, Dr. Kenneth Untiedt, Associate Professor of English as SFA, will give a presentation about the Lone Star flag and other important flags that have flown over Texas through the years. The Visitor’s Center is located at 200 E. Main Street, in the center of downtown Nacogdoches.

As a special second session to highlight history during the Nine Flags Festival, Dr. Morgan Scott Sosebee, Executive Director and Editor of the East Texas Historical Association will also speak. Dr. Sosebee will give a presentation on December 3, at 6:00 p.m., titled “Lowering the Lone Star: The Last Days of the Republic.”

Wassail Fest Nov. 30 (Saturday)

The annual (and fantastic!) Wassail Fest is here again, and will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday November 30, in downtown Nacogdoches.

This is also the official day for “Small Business Saturday” so it’s sure to be an extra-special day in downtown Nacogdoches.  Local business owners will offer non-alcoholic wassail made from their favorite (probably secret) recipes and visitors will have the chance to vote for the People’s Choice award.

There will also be great deals for local shoppers, so vote with your feet!  Stroll the magical downtown square, with more than 3 million Christmas lights twinkling, enjoy a tasty hot drink and support your local economy while getting some of your holiday shopping completed.

To have your event or local business advertised for free on Shangriladoches, too, please contact me.
