Pet Appreciation Week

jack-the-cat

On September 20, 2014 (Saturday), the Nacogdoches location of Tractor Supply Store will be hosting a full day of fun events and activities for families and pets in honor of their annual Pet Appreciation Week. Pet adoptions will be available, as well as info about pet nutirition, discounts on pet food and other supplies and free items to be given away (while supplies last).

Pet awareness is an important topic for all communities, but especially in Nacogdoches where we have one of the very highest rates of stray cat problems in the entire state and nation, amazingly enough.

There are simply not enough people willing to accept more pets into their homes to meet the great need for adoption at the Nacogdoches Animal Shelter. They also need volunteers to help care for the animals and for people to donate supplies. Find out more about their services here and visit their Facebook page here.

For those who are specifically interested in cats and the local stray cat problems, we have the O’Malley Alley Cat organization with that focus. This is a well-established group that has been helping stray cats locally for many years. Volunteers and donated supplies are always welcome! Visit their main site here.

Just how many unwanted cats are out there? MILLIONS!

Nac Community Band – Fall 2014

Rehearsals for the 2014-2015 Season of the Nacogdoches Community Band will begin on September 7th at 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. in the SFASU Band Hall.

A membership drive to increase the size of the band is currently underway and nearly all band instruments are
needed for this group. Clarinets, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, you name it, you’re welcome to join this fabulous band group. And don’t worry if you have not played in awhile . . . it will all come back to you, sooner than you think.

Please help us reach new band members by spreading the word in the community – let’s get the word out there! It’s going to be a great year!

You can also help by buying a bumpersticker for your car or bike, or a T-shirt to wear around town, to help other musicians find out about us. Bumperstickers in particular are nicely affordable – get several and share with friends!
