The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of “Cutie and the Boxer” at 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 11, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches. Directed by Zachary Heinzerling, “Cutie and the Boxer” is a moving portrait of a couple wrestling with the eternal themes of sacrifice, disappointment and aging, against a background of lives dedicated to art. Heinzerling’s debut documentary is a portrait of art, companionship and the 40-year turbulent love story between Ushio and Noriko Shinohara, two Japanese artists who meet and marry in New York in the early 1970s. This screening is part of the School of Art’s monthly Friday Night Film Series. The Cole Art Center is located at 329 E. Main St.

I recommend you plan to arrive a few minutes early, because there is limited parking which is usually filled quickly.

Catching Fire at the Carmike theater

The new movie Catching Fire is indeed on fire at the Carmike cinema in Nacogdoches.  On opening night, the mood was great and people were excited, and so far the movie is getting great reviews.
